MY PERSONAL IMPRESSIONS

A nicely posed and attractive Spanish Pikeman of the 30 Years' War based on the famous painting The last Tercio by Augusto Ferrer Dalmau. This art work shows the last stand of the Spanish Tercio during the last stage of the Battle of Rocroi (1643) and it was already the inspiration for more than one miniature in the past.

This was my first Scale 75 purchase and I have to say that I am totally satisfied with the miniature that I found in the box with all parts being casted very well. Nevertheless I had the misfortune of a torso with the typical armour plate lying slightly damaged between the protective foam. A little e-mail to Scale 75 sufficed to have the piece promptly replaced within a few days time, however. A big ten from me for the Scale 75 customer's service!

Having enjoyed the Spanish movie Alatriste (2006) starring Viggo Mortensen, I see some opportunities regarding the colour palette that can be used to paint this miniature and the way it can be weathered and tied to the groundwork.

Once finished extreem care will have to be taken to preserve the miniature from being damaged as the pike - measuring no less than 16,5 cm - is protruding very dangerously. It really does not take a vivid imagination to see a sling dangling from a camera hooking behind the pike during a miniature contest. Well, better safe than sorry and I think it would be advisable to put this miniature at the back of the show tables to avoid that ultimate modeler's nightmare...
